This page has been created for the ever growing question, “I just bought a new PC and what do I need to do for it.” Well have an answer for you. We will concentrate on Windows based systems for these are the most popular type purchased. If you need questions for LINUX or Apple computers feel free to e-mail us for questions with those. OK you have done you research for the new computer and are just about to make your purchase. Have you decided on and Intel or AMD based system. Well if not here is a quick reference for you on how to decide. You would want an Intel system if you will be using mostly business applications (Auto CAD, accounting software, word processors, spreadsheets, etc..). This is because in our experience that Intel processors do the math based calculations with more speed and this would be your benefit for these applications. If you plan to do more multimedia or game playing with the system than you would want the AMD processor system. This processor seems to much better with the graphics than Intel. So this might help you a little with the choosing of the system.
Now you have made the purchase and are ready to start it up. A few things you will need to make sure you have is a good Anti-Virus program. These usually come with a packaged system but they only have a 90 day trial on them. You can pick up on of these for a free or for just under $50 for a good one. Here are some that we recommend for free that work great EZArmor (free for the first year) and AVG (free). You will also need a good anti-spyware/ad ware program. Microsoft has a good one that we would stamp our approval on in a heartbeat. It is Microsoft Anti-Spyware and is extremely user friendly (Also free). Now if you plan to be on a high speed connection you will also need a firewall. These are for the most part the same in nature it is mostly just a matter of preference. The setup on this is easy and it configures as you go. You do not need to be one of us computer geeks to use this. If you plan to do a lot of internet surfing I would also recommend picking up Java for Windows. This will allow you to fully enjoy the internet for what it was meant to be. OK now you have most of your security taken care of you could also decide to change you web browser. We have some good alternatives to Internet Explorer on our Toys & Tools Home page. These are really just a matter of preference. But know that there are others out there. Also on our T&T Home page you could also pick up a ton of programs the will help in you everyday computing life from office suites to programming tools. Just take a look.
